Sabine Ziegler was born in Memmingen, Germany, and is based in Munich, where she lives and works. Growing up in a family business specialising in paper and art supplies, she developed a natural affinity for drawing and painting from an early age. In 2000, she turned her full attention to watercolour, embarking on an intensive self-directed exploration of the medium that would define her artistic career. Since 2007, she has been teaching watercolour in her own studio as well as in plein air settings, and has served as an instructor at several art academies across Germany, establishing herself as one of the country's most respected watercolour educators.
Ziegler's work draws inspiration from urban architecture, the natural world, and the animal kingdom. Her distinctive approach embraces the unpredictable nature of watercolour — allowing water and pigment to find their own path before stepping in with precision and intent, creating works that balance spontaneity with expressive control. Her paintings have been exhibited widely across Germany and Europe. A member of the Deutsche Aquarell-Gesellschaft (German Watercolour Society) since 2014 and a board member since 2016, she currently serves as President of the Society, actively championing the art of watercolour both nationally and internationally.
