About the Artist

Igor Sava was born in 1973 in the Republic of Moldova and has lived and worked in Rome since 1999, making Italy both his adopted home and the primary landscape of his artistic imagination. One of the founders of the Watercolor School of Rome, he is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished watercolor artists working in Europe today, with numerous international awards and distinctions to his name. His practice is centered on the cityscape — the layered, light-saturated streets, waterways, and architectural vistas of Rome and Venice rendered with a mastery of atmosphere that is at once technically assured and deeply felt. Venetian Dream is, in many ways, the natural culmination of Sava's artistic journey: a Moldovan-born artist, formed by Rome, painting Venice — that most dreamlike of cities — through the medium he has devoted his life to perfecting. In watercolor, where water itself is both tool and metaphor, Sava finds the ideal language for a city that exists, perpetually, at the boundary between the real and the imagined.
